Â鶹ÊÓƵ women’s soccer tops Alabama-Huntsville 4-1

JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/8/2009 - The Â鶹ÊÓƵ University women’s soccer team posted their second straight win in a 4-1 victory over University of Alabama-Huntsville on Tuesday. Â鶹ÊÓƵ improved to 4-2, while UAH dropped to 2-2 on the season.

Â鶹ÊÓƵ scored first with a goal from Eboni Murphy in the 15th minute of play. In the 31st minute, Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s Mollie Beanblossom put Â鶹ÊÓƵ up 2-0 with a goal. UAH responded quick as six minute later, a goal from Lauren Burns cut the Â鶹ÊÓƵ lead down to 2-1. That 2-1 advantage for Â鶹ÊÓƵ held as the halftime score.

In the second half, Â鶹ÊÓƵ was able to stretch their lead, as well as, keep UAH off the scoreboard. A goal from Steffi King just two minutes into the half, followed by a goal from Candice Blackard just six minutes later, put the game away for Â鶹ÊÓƵ. King also recorded one assist in the match for Â鶹ÊÓƵ.

Mary Jane Garrott and Katie Moser split time in the goal with Moser recording three saves and playing 73 minutes for Â鶹ÊÓƵ. Â鶹ÊÓƵ out shot UAH, 20-13 in the match. UAH’s’ Lauren Kelly and Marissa Middleton combined for 10 saves in the match.

Up next for Â鶹ÊÓƵ will be the second match in a stretch of seven straight home matches. Â鶹ÊÓƵ host Georgetown (Ky.) College on Friday, September 11 at 8:00 p.m.
