Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ men's soccer drops second straight with 3-2 loss

CLEVELAND, Miss. - 9/3/2009 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Bulldogs dropped to 1-2 on the season with a 3-2 loss at Delta State (Miss.) University on Thursday. With the win, Delta State notched their first win of the season, improving to 1-3.

After the two teams played a scoreless first half, it did not take long for the teams to make up for lost time. A goal from Josh Jokic in the 46th minute, followed by a goal from David Horstmann in the 47th minute put the Statesmen up 2-0. However, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ answered back in the 48th minute with a penalty kick goal from Rafael Carvalho. Carvalho scored again for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ in the 64th minute to tie the match at 2-2. But Jokic's second goal of the match in the 70th minute proved to be the winner.

Horstmann recorded two assists, while Jokic added one assist for Delta State. Flavio Romero recorded five saves in the net.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's one assist came from Guilherme Reis. J. Lanham and Mike Phelan again split time in the goal, with Landham recording three first half saves and Phelan tallying two saves in the final 45 minutes.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ out shot Delta State 18-14 in the match.

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be another road match on Monday, September 7 at Georgetown (Ky.) College.
