JACKSON, Tenn. - 8/29/2009 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University women’s soccer team posted a 5-2 victory over Brewton-Parker (Ga.) College on Saturday in their home opener. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 2-1 on the season, while Brewton-Parker dropped to 1-1.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored first with a goal by Steffi King in the 10th minute of play. Nine minutes later, Brewton-Parker tied the match at 1-1 with a goal from Jalissa Johnson. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Cailtin Zimmerman broke the tie for good with a goal in the 25th minute.
In the second half, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ began to pull away late as Whitney Cramer and Candice Blackard scored goals in the 62nd and 79th minutes to put Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ up 4-1. A goal in the final 10 minutes of play from Brewton-Parker’s Jerniel Nivet and Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Jill Landers set the final score at 5-2.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ received assists from Blackard, Eboni Murphy and Landers in the contest.
Katie Moser earned the win between the posts with two saves, while Mallory Lashley of Brewton-Parker recorded 14 saves in the loss.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is a road game on Friday, Sept. 4 at Brenau (Ga.) University.
