ATHENS, Tenn. - 8/24/2009 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Lady Bulldog volleyball team opened 2009 season with a pair of wins. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ defeated Tennessee Wesleyan College 3-0 (25-16, 25-12, 25-7) and Shorter (Ga.) College 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-20) in a tri-match on the campus of Tennessee Wesleyan.
The second win of the day was a milestone win for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ head coach Steven Gream, recording his 100th career win. Gream, now in his fifth season as head coach of the Lady Bulldogs, has a career record of 100-47 (.680).
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s first match of the season saw the Lady Bulldogs make short work of Tennessee Wesleyan. Anna Sims led the way with 13 kills and five blocks. Heather Lieberman added seven kills and Marcela Madeira posted six kills. Katie Adams recorded 25 assists, four aces, two blocks, and three kills. Madeira added two blocks.
In the win over Shorter, a much closer match, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€˜s Madeira and Lieberman led with 12 kills each. Sims and Kelsey Duling tallied 10 kills each. Adams posted 40 assists and two aces. Sims and Madeira added five and two blocks respectively.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be their home opener on Saturday, August 29 versus Brescia (Ky.) University at 2:00 p.m.
