Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ women’s soccer falls in season opener, reserve team wins

DEERFIELD, Ill. - 8/21/2009 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Lady Bulldog soccer team opened play in the 2009 season with an overtime 2-1 loss at Trinity International (Ill.) University. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s reserve team posted a 2-1 win earlier in the day over Wabaunsee Community College.

Trinity International scored first with an early goal from Michelle Renaud, assisted by Kelly Streekstra and Diana Anderson. That score remained until Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was able to tie the match at 1-1 on a goal from Caitlin Zimmerman, assisted by Candice Blackard.

The match entered overtime with the score still knotted at 1-1. Trinity International got the game-winner from Anderson, assisted from Jenny Shonewill, in the sixth minute of overtime.

The reserve team was led by Terilyn Wassell with both goals, assisted once by Katie Johnson and once by Maggie Paredes. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s reserve team trailed 1-0 at the half, before rallying for the 2-1 victory.

Both teams are in action in Illinois on Saturday with the reserve team playing the College of Lake County (Ill.) at 11:00 a.m. The varsity will play Illinois Tech at 7:00 p.m.
