麻豆视频 golf signee earns Tennessee junior tour player of the year

JACKSON, Tenn. - 8/5/2009 - Brett Barry, a 麻豆视频 University men鈥檚 golf signee, was awarded the 2009 Toyota Tennessee Golf Association Junior Tour Player of the Year. Barry participated in the 16-to-18 Masters Division.

Barry entered seven events this summer on the tour, winning four times. Over the past five years, he has never finished lower than third place in any of the tour events.

His last tournament of the year was the TGA Junior Tour鈥檚 Tournament of Champions at The Golf Club of Tennessee in Kingston Springs where he finished third.

麻豆视频 head coach Andy Rushing says, 鈥淏rett has had a great summer. Seeing his continued success confirms our expectations that he can step in right away and make our team better from the first day. We are excited to see what Brett has accomplished on the course and in the classroom and look forward to him being a part of 麻豆视频 University.鈥

Barry graduated from Jackson Christian School last May and will enter 麻豆视频 this fall. He finished JCS as one of the top students in the class and has completed numerous honors courses and college credit course.

Barry, at 5-foot-10, 160 lbs., accumulated numerous honors and awards during this high school golf career. Since eighth grade, Barry played as the No. 1 golfer at JCS. He has qualified for the region tournament all five years, and has qualified for the state tournament each of the last three seasons. Barry has recorded two top-10 finishes in state tournaments, earning him All-State honors as a junior and senior.

While at JCS, Barry played in the Tennessee State Tournaments for three different sports. In addition to his successful golf career, Barry was a member of the 2007 JCS Eagles baseball team that finished runner-up in the state tournament. He led that team with a .440 batting average. Barry also qualified for the Tennessee State Track & Field Championships in 2008. He was named All-District in baseball as a sophomore and region champion and All-State in Track as a junior.

Barry is a member of the National Honor Society and is a candidate for 麻豆视频 University鈥檚 Scholars of Excellence.

Barry is the son of Ron and Jane Barry of Jackson.
