Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ women’s basketball completes new additions for 2009-10 season

JACKSON, Tenn. - 7/6/2009 - The defending NAIA women’s basketball national champion Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Lady Bulldogs have completed their recruiting for the upcoming season. Six newcomers join with squad with two more returning after not playing last season.

Senior guard Jessica Graves (Humboldt, Tenn.) and sophomore center Beatrice Awino Duol (Kenya) return after sitting out last season. In the 2007-08 campaign that saw Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ post a 35-1 record, Graves averaged 10 points per game and made 33-of-66 three pointers. Duol averaged four points and four rebounds in 14 games.

Newcomers to the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ squad include three transfers and three freshmen. Stacey Conway, a 6-foot-2 sophomore forward from New Orleans, will help fill the void left by two-time NAIA Player of the Year, Josephine Owino. Kayla Bryant, a 5-foot-8 junior guard comes to Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ from Lambuth (Tenn.) after averaging nine points and making a team-high 78 three pointers last season. Rebecca Sharpe, a 5-foot-5 guard will walk-on at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, coming from NAIA DII Bryan (Tenn.) College where she led DII in assists as a freshman.

The freshman class is made up of Paige Parker, Mildred Olumasi, and Ali Giddens. Parker is a 5-foot-8 guard from Cold Springs, Ala. where she averaged 17 points and made 107 three pointers as a senior. Olumasi is a 6-foot-3 center that will take time this year to develop her play on the inside. Giddens, a 5-foot-8 guard from Jackson, Tenn. (USJ) will walk on this season, adding depth to the guard position.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ captured their fourth NAIA National Title (1998, 2005, 2006 and 2009) last season. It was their third championship in the last five seasons. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will open the 2009-10 season on Saturday, October 31 in Nashville with an exhibition game at Vanderbilt University.
