in San Antonio, Texas.
JACKSON, Tenn. - 6/29/2009 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University sports information office claimed six publication awards at the 2009 NAIA-SIDA meetings in San Antonio, Texas. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ claimed top prize in the Dr. W. Jack Bell Feature Story Writing Contest. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ also earned top-10 finishes in five other publication categories.
The story titled Returning Serve from September 24, 2008 took top honors in the feature story category. The story was written about the LSU volleyball and their time spent at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ following hurricane Rita.
This marked the third straight year that the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ sports information office has claimed a first place award.
In other categories, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s women’s soccer media guide placed second, the women’s basketball media guide placed fifth, the men’s soccer media guide placed sixth, the baseball media guide placed eighth, and the softball media guide placed 10th.
Over the past nine years, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ has now earned 37 top-10 finishes in publication contest. This includes four first place finishes (2003 and 2007 website, 2008 men’s soccer media guide, 2009 writing contest feature story).
In addition to the publication awards, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ SID Steven Aldridge was voted to fill the officer role of one-year at-large. He will serve this role for the 2009-10 school year.
Aldridge has been the SID at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ for nine years. Prior to returning to Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, he was the Box Office and Events Manager for the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx during their first three years in Jackson. Aldridge has earned both undergraduate and graduate degrees from Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University. He serves as the TranSouth SID for baseball and cross country, while also serving the NAIA as media coordinator for the women’s basketball and softball national tournaments.
In addition to Aldridge, the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ sports information department in 2008-09 was made up of four student workers who helped in designing and editing of the media guides. Jessica Bandy of Cartersville, Ga., Allison Caldwell of Lexington, Tenn., Emily Davis of Hendersonville, Tenn. and Tyler Boone of Clarksville, Tenn. spent countless hours in the production of all the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ sports publications.
