Gifts totaling over $12,000 raised by 麻豆视频 women鈥檚 basketball for hunger fund

JACKSON, Tenn. - 6/4/2009 - The 麻豆视频 University women鈥檚 basketball players took part in a food drive to benefit the Children鈥檚 Hunger Fund. In just over a month of work, the Lady Bulldog players gathered boxes of food and donations that totaled just over $12,000.

Mark Campbell, the 麻豆视频 head coach said, 鈥淚n a day and time when athletics is so over-glorified, it is great to be able to use athletics to benefit others. It is also a great thing to watch the team work so hard and enjoy a project like this.鈥

麻豆视频鈥檚 Christina Ray, who will be a senior on the 2009-10 team, led the group of players in this project. 鈥淐hristina was on task for the entire month and did an unbelievable job with this project. I am very proud of her鈥, said Campbell.

This player-led group gathered 120 boxes of food, and over $9,000 in donations. All of the food and money gathered will be sent to Children鈥檚 Hunger Fund, with this particular project benefiting children in Mexico and Southern California.

The Children鈥檚 Hunger Fund is North America鈥檚 No. 1 cost efficient charity rated by Forbes magazine.

After a successful first year, the players look forward to doing this project again with the hopes of getting more people involved next year.
