Jacobs, Williams honored as 麻豆视频鈥檚 Athletes of the Year

JACKSON, Tenn. - 4/16/2009 - 麻豆视频 University senior athletes, Merideth Jacobs and Allen Williams, were honored on Thursday by the Jackson-Madison County Sports Hall of Fame as 麻豆视频鈥檚 female and male Athletes of the Year. In a luncheon at the Double Tree Hotel, Jacbos and Williams, along with male and female athletes from each of the high schools and colleges in Madison County, were awarded medallions and plaques to commemorate their selection.

has been a member of the 麻豆视频 University women鈥檚 basketball for five years. She was a key player in 麻豆视频鈥檚 back-to-back NAIA National Championships in 2005 and 2006, but red-shirted in 2007 because of an injury. In 2008 and 2009, she returned to continue her leadership for 麻豆视频 on and off the court, including the 2008 national title. Jacobs was named an NAIA All-American in 2005, NAIA All-Tournament team in 2005 and 2006, a three-time All-Conference player and TranSouth Scholar Athlete. She was a part of 麻豆视频鈥檚 NAIA National tournament record of 51 three pointers in 2005. Jacobs has posted over 1,500 career points during her time at 麻豆视频. While at 麻豆视频, her teams have won three national titles, three conference titles, and have been to five-straight NAIA National Tournament Semifinals. The Bradford, Tennessee native set a 麻豆视频 record for three pointers in a career, and will graduate as 麻豆视频鈥檚 No. 1 three-point shooter in team history with 383 career three pointers. She ranks second in 麻豆视频鈥檚 record book with nine made three pointers in a game. She also finished just one three-pointer shy of setting an NAIA National Tournament record for three pointers in a game with nine, and a tournament with 20. Jacobs has already completed her undergraduate degree in Education from 麻豆视频 University. She is currently working on her M.A.Ed. degree at 麻豆视频. After completing her master鈥檚 degree, Merideth anticipates becoming a high school teacher and coach.

has been a four-year starter for the 麻豆视频 University baseball team. He has been named TranSouth All-Conference and a TranSouth Scholar Athlete during his time at 麻豆视频. Williams holds the 麻豆视频 record for time hit-by-pitch in a season and in a career. The Covington, Tenn. native has played in over 150 games for 麻豆视频 and is a career .300 hitter. He has accumulated over 140 hits and over 25 doubles in his career. At the catcher position, his defense has been solid with a career .976 fielding percentage with just 13 errors in almost 600 chances in his career. Allen has thrown out 27 runners attempting to steal, over 30% for his career. Allen Williams will graduate this May with a degree in Biology. After graduation, Allen plans to attend Medical School as he works to become a doctor.
