Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ softball completes season sweep of Lambuth

JACKSON, Tenn. - 4/15/2009 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University softball team won both games of a double-header on Tuesday at Lambuth (Tenn.) University, taking game one 12-7 and winning the second game 11-0. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ also swept the Lambuth Lady Eagles earlier in the season in a double-header at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored first in game one by posting two runs in the top of the first. The Lady Bulldogs never trailed in the contest, but held off several Lambuth rallies. Both teams scored twice in the third inning and two more times in the fifth inning to set the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ lead at 6-4 in going into the sixth inning. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ exploded for six runs in the top of the six to take control. Lambuth tried to respond, but could only post three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Both teams were held scoreless in the seventh as Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ took the 12-7 win. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ out hit Lambuth 15-7 in the contest. Sydney McMillian earned the win for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, tossing 4.1 innings, allowing five runs, one earned, on four hits with four strikeouts. Lindsey Landreneau, Katie Davis, and Ashley Blakenship each posted three hits in the game, with Davis and Blankenship leading the way with four RBI each.

Game two saw Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ continue their hot hitting as Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ jumped out with five runs in the first and four more in the second inning to lead 9-0. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ sealed the run-rule shortened game with two more runs in the fifth to win 11-0. Hailee Edwards earned the win, tossing five innings, allowing just two hits and one walk while striking out 10 batters. Landreneau led Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ with a 4-for-4 game, including two RBI, a homerun, and three runs scored. Davis and Sydney McMillen each added three hits.
