Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ softball drops two at Martin Methodist

PULASKI, Tenn. - 4/11/2009 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University softball team lost a double-header at Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College on Thursday, extending their losing skid to five games. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is now 15-18 on the season and 2-2 in the TranSouth Conference. With the pair of wins, Martin Methodist moved to 30-7 overall and 7-1 in league play.

Game one saw Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ jump out to the early 1-0 lead, holding that advantage until the bottom of the third inning. The RedHawks of Martin Methodist took the lead with two runs in the third, followed by two more in the bottom of the fourth inning to lead 4-1. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ answered with a run in the fifth, before Martin extended the lead back to three runs, 5-2, with a tally in the sixth. The Lady Bulldogs of Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ fought back with two runs in the top of the seventh to pull to with in one run. However, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ could not tie the game, as they fell 5-4 for their first conference loss. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ out-hit the RedHawks 11-7 in the game, including two doubles from Lindsey Landreneau, and one double each from Ashley Blankenship and Ali Thomas. Michelle Albonetti added a triple in the game. Hailee Edwards took the loss, allowing five runs in her complete game effort.

In game two, the score was game was a close game until the final inning. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ again scored first with a run in the top of the second inning. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ maintained the 1-0 lead until Martin Methodist scored twice in the bottom of the fifth inning. However, in the bottom of the sixth inning, the RedHawks broke the game open with a four-spot to earn the 6-1 win. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s lone run came from an Ashley Blankenship home run in the second inning. Sydney McMillin took the loss for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, allowing two runs in 4.1 innings pitched.
