SECAUCUS, N.J. - 4/9/2009 - of 麻豆视频 University was selected on Thursday in the third round of the 2009 WNBA Draft by the Washington Mystics. Owino was the 28th player selected overall in the draft.
鈥淣ever in a million years did I think I think this would happen to me,鈥 says Owino. 鈥淭his is so unbelievable.鈥
The team, coaches, boosters, and members of the local media gathered at the home of Mark Campbell, 麻豆视频鈥檚 head coach, to watch the draft. Owino stated, 鈥淚t meant so much to me that my teammates were there with me. The fact that each of them believed that much in me just means a lot.鈥
Owino, a 6-foot-3 center, is the two-time defending NAIA National Player of the Year. She is coming off a senior season where she averaged 19.3 points and 8.5 rebounds per game, leading 麻豆视频 to their fourth NAIA National Title. Owino has been a part of three national title teams, including the 2005 title during her red-shirt season, the 2006 title as a freshman, and the 2009 title this season. During those five years, 麻豆视频 has tallied a 21-2 national tournament record with the three titles and two semifinal appearances. She was named the 2009 NAIA Tournament Most Valuable Player and was selected All-National Tournament in each of her four years.

During her four playing seasons at 麻豆视频, Owino accumulated 2,240 points and 1,034 rebounds. For her career, she averaged 15.8 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. Her best season came as a senior with her 19.3 points, while posting a career best 8.6 rebounds per game as a junior. Her career highs in points and rebounds both occurred during the post season of her senior year. She scored a career best 37 points in a win over Blue Mountain (Miss.) during the TranSouth Conference Tournament, while grabbing a career-high 20 rebounds in the national tournament quarterfinals against Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.).
