Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ men up to No. 4 in final poll; women remain No. 1 for 25 straight rankings

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - 3/11/2009 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University men's basketball team, fresh off their TranSouth Conference Tournament Title, jumped two spots to No. 4 in the final NAIA Rankings. The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ women, also winners the TranSouth Tournament, remain No. 1 for the 25th consecutive ranking.

The Bulldogs (28-5) jumped two spots in the final poll of the year to No. 4. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ won their quarterfinal round conference tournament game against Lyon (Ark.) College 102-77. The Bulldogs then defeated the Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College RedHawks 75-68 to advance to their eighth conference title game in the league's 13-year history. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ then knocked off Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University 105-78 to earn the TranSouth Conference Tournament Title, to go along with their regular season championship. With the tournament title, the Bulldogs earned the automatic bid from the TranSouth Conference to the 2009 Buffalo Funds-NAIA National Tournament in Kansas City, Mo., beginning Wednesday, March 18.

On the women's side, the Lady Bulldogs, who are now 32-1, remain No. 1 in the NAIA National Rankings for the 25th straight ranking. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ defeated Blue Mountain (Miss.) College 146-27 in the quarterfinal game of the TranSouth Conference Tournament. They then earned a win over Bethel (Tenn.) College in the semifinal round of the tournament to move on to the tournament title game. In the title game, the Lady Bulldogs defeated Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University 92-69 to sweep their third straight regular season and tournament title. After earning the automatic bid from the TranSouth Conference, the women will continue their season in the 2009 NAIA National Tournament at Oman Arena in Jackson, Tenn., beginning March 18.
