KANSAS CITY, Mo. - 3/11/2009 - The NAIA announced the for the 2009 NAIA Women's Basketball National Championship to be played at Oman Arena in Jackson, Tenn. on March 18-24. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University, ranked No. 1 in the NAIA and the top seed in the tournament, will be making their NAIA record 20th appearance in the tournament.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is also making an NAIA record 18 straight appearances in the event.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ earned the TranSouth Conference's automatic bid after winning their third straight TranSouth Tournament Championship.
In their 19 years in the tournament, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ has a 49-16 (.754) record. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ has won three NAIA National Titles (1998, 2005, 2006). The Lady Bulldogs have advanced to five championship games, nine semifinals (four straight), and 14 quarter finals.
In the last four years, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ has a 16-2 record in the national tournament. This includes the back-to-back titles and 2005 and 2006, followed by two straight losses in the semifinal round, both by two points on shots in the final seconds of each game.
The NAIA will release the brackets for the tournament on Thursday, March 12.
