JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/4/2009 - The No. 1 ranked Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Lady Bulldogs started their TranSouth Tournament title defense with a 146-27 win over Blue Mountain (Miss.) College. With the win, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 30-1 on the season, while Blue Mountain ends their season with a 7-24 record.
In the win, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ set five new team records, and one individual record. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ set new team records with 146 points in a game, 76 points in a half, 119 point margin of victory, .753 field goal percentage, and 61 made field goals. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ senior guard Merideth Jacobs also set a new record for three-point percentage in a game at .875 (7-8).
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ opened the game with a 17-0 run, on their way to a 76-14 halftime lead. The Lady Bulldogs scored their 100th point at the 14 minute mark of the second half, before the game ended at 146-27.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by the reigning NAIA and TranSouth Conference Player of the Week, Josephine Owino with 37 points and 15 rebounds. The 37 points was a career high for Owino in just 20 minutes of action. Kaitlin Dudley and Ashley Lilliard added 24 points, while Merideth Jacobs scored 23 points. Lavanda Ross and Kayla Hudson added 13 and 12 points respectively.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 75-percent from the field, including 76-percent (16-21) from behind the arc, and 73-percent (8-11) from the free throw line.
Blue Mountain was led by Joy Pierce with seven points. The Toppers shot 16-percent from the field, seven percent (2-27) from behind the arc, and 63-percent (5-8) from the free throw line.
Up next, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be at home versus Bethel (Tenn.) College in the semifinal round of the TranSouth Conference Tournament on Friday, March 6 at 7:00 pm.
