No. 1 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ pushes home court winning streak to 37 with win over Martin Methodist

JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/19/2009 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Lady Bulldogs basketball team posted consecutive home win number 37 with a 101-57 victory over Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, who has been No. 1 in the NAIA for 22 straight polls, improved to 25-1 on the season and 12-0 in the TranSouth. Martin Methodist dropped to 18-9 overall and 6-8 in league play.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ opened the game with the first 20 points, including eight of from Josephine Owino. Martin Methodist broke their scoreless streak six minutes into play with a three pointer from Ashley Meeks. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ continued to push their first half lead to as many as 32 points on two occasions. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ held a 30-point halftime lead, 54-34.

In the second half, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ started with seven straight points on their way to their to the 101-57 final.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Josephine Owino with 29 points and 14 rebounds. Lavanda Ross posted 19 points, Kaitlin Dudley added 15 points, while Merideth Jacobs and Zeinab Chan scored 13 points each. The NAIA's best shooting team posted 54-percent from the field, 42-percent (8-19) from three-point range, and 77-percent (23-30) from the free throw line.

Martin Methodist was led by Ashley Meeks with 14 points and Tiffany Travis with 12 points. Martin Methodist shot 33-percent from the field, 20-percent (5-25) from behind the arc, and 75-percent (6-8) from the free throw line.

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a game on Saturday in Henderson, Tenn., for a battle with No. 5 Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University at 2:00 pm.
