No. 1 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ tops No. 3 Lambuth 86-67

JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/14/2009 - The No. 1 ranked Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Lady Bulldogs topped No. 3 Lambuth (Tenn.) University 86-67 in their first game on David Blackstock Court since Jan. 19. With the win, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ moves to 24-1 on the season. The Lady Eagles of Lambuth fall to 19-5 overall.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ started off the game with a quick three pointer, but Lambuth quickly answered with a basket of their own. Both teams swapped buckets over the next eight minutes before Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ began to pull away. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ posted a 19-3 run over the following seven minutes, going up by 17 points, 37-20, just under six minutes in the half. Lambuth continued to hang tough, cutting into the Lady Bulldog's lead. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ settled for a 12-point halftime advantage, 39-27.

The second half started with a quick Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ bucket. However, the Lady Eagles chipped Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's lead to 10 points, 47-37, just over three minutes into the half. The Lady Bulldogs began to pull away again, though. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ stretched its lead to as many as 22 points, 84-62, with two minutes to go in the contest. The Lady Bulldogs won by a final score of 86-67.

The Lady Bulldogs, ranked No. 1 in the NAIA in field goal percentage and three-point percentage, shot 50-percent from the floor, making 31-of-62 shots in the victory. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 42-percent from behind the arc and 80-percent for the game from the charity stripe.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led on the night by Kaitlin Dudley with 25 points. Josephine Owino posted 21 points in the Lady Bulldog's win. Freshman guard Lavanda Ross posted her first career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Lambuth was led by Chytearra Kintchen with 20 points. Yolanda Johnson added 16 points for the Lady Eagles.

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ with be a TranSouth Conference contest versus Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College on Thursday, Feb. 19. The game is set to tip off at 6 pm at Fred DeLay Gymnasium.
