Jackson, Tenn. - 10/8/2002 - Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University senior, Joe Phiri was named the National Christian College Athletic Association’s Player of the Week. This is the second time in three weeks and this also marks the third time in four weeks that the award has gone to a Bulldog.
Phiri, a 5-foot-7 forward, scored two goals in Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s 4-2 victory over No. 20 Cumberland University. He now leads the Bulldogs in goals with nine and total points with 21. Phiri, originally from Zambia, is Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s all-time leading goal scorer with 58 and in total points with 138.
The Bulldogs are now 6-5-1 overall and 2-2 in conference play. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is hosting Freed-Hardeman University tonight in an important TranSouth Conference match at 7:00 p.m.
In other notes, the make-up game for the Jackson Cup featuring Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University and Lambuth University has been set for October 30 at 8:00 p.m. The location has been moved to Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ and next years Jackson Cup will be played at Lambuth.
