JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/12/2009 - The No. 1 ranked Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Lady Bulldogs defeated Cumberland (Tenn.) University 96-45 to sweep the season series. The Lady Bulldogs of Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ are now 23-1 overall and remain perfect in league play with an 11-0 record. With the loss, Cumberland falls to 7-19 on the year and 3-10 in the TranSouth Conference.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ controlled the pace of the game from the tip. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's Kaitlin Dudley drained a three pointer in the Lady Bulldog's first possession of the game. With the bucket Dudley passed the 1,500 point mark for her career. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ continued to stretch their lead, going up by as many as 36 points, 47-11, with just over two minutes left until the break. The Lady Bulldogs of Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ settled for a 33-point halftime advantage, 49-16.
The second half continued just as the first, with Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ in control. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ stretched its lead to as many as 53 points, 96-43, with just under 3 minutes to go in the contest, before settling for a final score of 96-45.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led on the night by Dudley with a game-high 19 points. Zeinab Chan recorded a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Lavanda Ross added 11 points for the Lady Bulldogs of Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, while Merideth Jacobs, Josephine Owino, and Ashley Lillard added 10 points each.
Cumberland was led by Chaquaila Gaten with 15 points.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be returning home for their next match up, after sweeping a 5-game road swing. The Lady Bulldogs will face Lambuth (Tenn.) University Saturday, Feb. 14 at Fred DeLay Gymnasium. The game will tip off at 2 pm, to be followed by the men's game at 4 pm.
