MAYFIELD, Ky. - 1/24/2009 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Lady Bulldogs, ranked No. 1 in the NAIA for the eighteenth straight ranking, doubled up Mid-Continent (Ky.) University 102-51. In the process, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot .709 from the field, which set a new school record. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, the NAIA's No. 1 ranked field goal shooting team, broke the old record of .688 shot versus Lindenwood (Mo.) back in 1995.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ also shot 62-percent from three point range. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s 13 made three pointers match their second best output of the season, only behind the 14 made three pointers in a win at Vanugard (Calif.) earlier this season.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (19-1, 7-0) led 56-22 at the half. The Lady Bulldogs held a 25-15 lead with 8:43 left, but outscored Mid-Continent 31-7 over the remainder of the half to pull away.
In the second half, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ continued to add to their lead, outscoring the Cougars 46-29 in the final 20 minutes.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Kaitlin Dudley with 19 points, including 3-of-3 from behind the arc. Lavanda Ross added 18 points, Josephine Owino scored 15 points, and Christina Ray posted 10 points. All but one Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ player scored in the game. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 71-percent from the field, 62-percent (13-21) from behind the arc, and 58-percent (11-19) from the free throw line.
Mid-Continent was led by Nicki Dewitt with 14 points, including three 3-pointers. The Cougars shot 40-percent from the field, 25-percent (4-16) from behind the arc, and 56-percent (5-9) from the free throw line.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be Thursday, January 29 at Bethel (Tenn.) College at 6:00 pm. This will be the second in a five-game road stretch for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ.
