No. 10 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ wins big in final home game of the month

JACKSON, Tenn. - 1/19/2009 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University men's basketball team posted a 118-71 victory over Blue Mountain (Miss.) College in their final home game in the month of January. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 15-4 overall and 5-1 in the TranSouth. Blue Mountain dropped to 1-17 on the season and 0-6 in league play.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ jumped out to a quick 8-2 lead, including the game's first five points. However, Blue Mountain made several shots early, including two three pointers from Jon Estes to cut the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ lead to 18-15 with 12:40 left in the half. But Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ began an 18-8 run that would put the Bulldogs up by 13 points, 36-23, with 8:38 left to play in the half. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ maintained the double digit advantage, pushing their first half lead up to as many as 26 points, 61-35 at the break.

In the second half, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored 17 of the first 23 points to increase their lead to 38 points with 16:13 left to play. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ continued on by stretching their biggest lead of the night up to 50 points, 116-66, with 2:16 left to play. When the final horn sounded, and a combined 167 shots had been attempted by the two teams, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ won 118-71.

All 12 players on Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's roster scored in the game, including six players in double figures. Greg Truvillion led the way with a game-high 26 points. Roland Bonhoro added 14 points and 14 rebounds. Matt Neaville scored 12 points, Martez Hawkins added 11 points, while Brian Lake and Tacuma Alexander posted 10 points each. Keith Tolliver grabbed 10 rebounds for the Bulldogs. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 54-percent from the field, 32-percent (11-34) from three point range, and 83-percent (19-23) from the free throw line.

Blue Mountain was led by Josh Whitson with 22 points, including five three pointers. Brad Pressley added 14 points. The Toppers shot 31-percent from the field, 30-percent (12-40) from behind the arc, and 78-percent (7-9) from the charity stripe.

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be the first of five straight road games. On Saturday, Jan. 24, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ travels to Mid-Continent (Ky.) University for a 4:00 pm tip-off.
