JACKSON, Tenn. - 1/19/2009 - The No. 1 ranked Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Lady Bulldogs cruised to a 123-48 win over TranSouth Conference opponent Blue Mountain (Miss.) College 123-48. The Lady Bulldogs moved to 18-1 on the season, and a perfect 6-0 in league play. Blue Mountain dropped to 2-13 overall and 0-5 in the conference.
The Lady Bulldogs controlled the pace of the game from tip-off and never looked back. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ held their biggest lead of the first half at 38 points with a 61-23 halftime lead.
The second half continued much the same way, as the Lady Bulldogs continued to stretch their lead. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ pushed their lead to as many as 77 points, 123-46, before settling for the final score of 123-48.
In the game the Lady Bulldogs scored 55 points of turnovers, which was just one point shy of the team record of 56 back in November of 2002.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ boasted six players in double figures led by Jackson native Lavanda Ross with a career-high of 25 points. Josephine Owino, the TranSouth Conference Player of the Week, added 23 points in just 18 minutes of play. Zeinab Chan scored 18 points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. Christina Ray scored 17 points, Kailtin Dudley and Ashley Lillard added 13 points each. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 63-percent from the field, 53-percent (8-15) from three point range, and 83-percent (15-18) from the free throw line.
Blue Mountain was led by Anna Lisa Powell with 10 points. The Toppers posted 33-percent shooting from the field, 23-percent (6-26) from behind the arc, and 63-percent (10-16) from the free throw line.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be their first of five straight road games with a trip to Mayfield, Ky. on Saturday, Jan. 24 to play Mid-Continent University at 2:00 pm.
