PULASKI, Tenn. - 1/15/2009 - The No. 5 ranked Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University men’s basketball team used the heroics of senior Brian Lake to win another TranSouth Conference game. With six seconds left to play, Lake put back a missed shot from Matt Neaville to give Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ the 69-68 win at No. 24 Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College.
Looking back to last Thursday, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Lake sank a three pointer in the final second to give Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ the 77-76 win versus Cumberland.
In the conference game at Martin Methodist, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led by four points, 39-35 at the half, but could not hold the lead. Martin Methodist pushed their second half lead up to 10 points, 52-42, with 15 minutes left to play. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ slowly began to rally, but the RedHawks were able to maintain a slim lead for the majority of the second half. Then, with 2:35 left in the game, Lake drained a bucket to give Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ the lead again, 67-66. That scored remained until Aubre Bodison put in a shot for Martin Methodist with 19 seconds left to play, putting the home team up by one point.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ trailed by one point with 19 seconds left. Bulldog senior, Matt Neaville missed a shot that was rebounded by Lake. Lake promptly put the rebound back up for two points to give Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ and Lake their second game winning shot in the past eight days.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Lake with 20 points. Neaville added 13 points including three 3-pointers. Greg Truvillion scored 12 points and Martez Hawkins recorded 11 points. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 40-percent from the field, 19-percent (6-32) percent from behind the arc, and 81-percent (13-16) from the free throw line.
Martin Methodist was led by Aubre Bodison with 26 points, including five three pointers. Jamal Naylor added 16 points and Will Shackelford added 10 points. The RedHawks shot 42-percent from the field, 29-percent (6-21) from three point range, and 78-percent (14-18) from the free throw line.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a game on Saturday, Jan. 17 versus Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University at 4:00 pm at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Fred DeLay Gymnasium.
