KANSAS CITY, Mo. - 1/12/2009 - The Â鶹ÊÓƵ University women's basketball team continued their stay as the No. 1 team in the NAIA in each of the five national rankings this season. Â鶹ÊÓƵ has now been No. 1 in seventeen straight NAIA women's basketball national rankings dating back to the preseason poll of 2007-08.

The Â鶹ÊÓƵ ladies regained all 11 first place votes after gaining all but two in last week's ranking. Â鶹ÊÓƵ is coming off a slow week with just one game. The Lady Bulldogs (15-1) rolled to a 101-34 win over Cumberland (Tenn.) University to remain perfect in the TranSouth standings at 3-0.

Not only is Â鶹ÊÓƵ No. 1 in the nation, the Lady Bulldogs have played one of the toughest schedules in the land. Â鶹ÊÓƵ has a 3-1 record versus teams in the top-10, while boasting a 7-1 record versus teams in the top 25. Over the remainder of the regular season, Â鶹ÊÓƵ will play eight more games versus teams currently in the top 25. In women's basketball, the TranSouth continues to be one of the toughest conference with five teams in the Top-25 (1. Â鶹ÊÓƵ, 4. Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.), 6. Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.), 19. Bethel (Tenn.), and 23. Martin Methodist (Tenn.)).

On the men's side, the Â鶹ÊÓƵ University Bulldogs maintain their No. 5 ranking in the latest NAIA Poll released on Monday, Jan. 12. This marks the second straight week for the men at No. 5, and the third consecutive poll in which Â鶹ÊÓƵ's men and women have been ranked in the top five of their respective polls.

The Bulldogs played just one game this week against current No. 11 Cumberland (Tenn.) University. The Bulldogs pulled out a 77-76 win in the game on a three pointer by senior Brian Lake in the last second of the game. With the win, the Bulldogs move to 12-3 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

Up next for the men will be a non-conference re-match against Life (Ga.) University. The game will tip off at 7 pm on David Blackstock Court at Fred DeLay Gymnasium on Monday, Jan. 12. The men and the women will then return to conference play on Thursday, Jan. 15 by traveling to Pulaski, Tenn. to play Martin Methodist College. The women's game will tip off 6 pm with the men's game to follow at 8 pm.
