SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - 11/28/2008 - The topped ranked Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Lady Bulldogs remained perfect as they held off No. 16 The Master's College Mustangs, 85-76. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ moved to 10-0 on the season, while The Master's fell to 5-3 on the year.
The Master's started strong as they maintained a lead on the No. 1 ranked Lady Bulldogs through the first 10 minutes of play. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ however was able to take their first lead at the 10 minute mark, 22-21. The teams went back and forth for the remained of the first half, with Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ holding a 39-38 lead at the break. This marked the closest that any team had been to Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ at the break.
In the second half, the play remained mostly the same as both teams swapped leads early in the half. However, midway through the second half, a basket by Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's Josephine Owino, followed by three pointers from Kaitlin Dudley, Merideth Jacobs, and Kayla Hudson put Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ up by 12 points, 68-56. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led by as many as 13 points, 72-59 with 5:43 left to play.
The Master's didn't go away as the Mustangs pulled to within seven points in the final three minutes of play. The Master's had the ball, trailing by just seven, but missed a three pointer to cut the lead even closer. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ made 14-of-17 free throws in the game to seal the win, 85-76.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Merideth Jacobs with 19 points, including five three pointers. Josephine Owino recorded a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Kaitlin Dudley added 18 points, Zeinab Chan scored 14 points, and Kayla Hudson finished with 10 points. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 46-percent from the field, 39-percent (9-23), and 82-percent (14-17) from the free throw line.
The Master's was led by Stacy Nanninga with 27 points. Annie Gillespie added 15 points and Amanda Durocher scored 11 points. The Mustangs shot 46-percent from the field, 20-percent (4-20) from behind the arc, and 80-percent (8-10) form the free throw line.
