Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ volleyball ends season with a national tournament loss at No. 17 Vanguard, 3-1

COASTA MESA, Calif. - 11/22/2008 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Lady Bulldogs dropped their NAIA Volleyball National Championship Opening Round match to Vanguard (Calif.) University 3-1 (22-25, 25-22, 20-25, 25-27). Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ finished the season 27-8 overall. With the win, Vanguard advances to the national tournament final site with a record of 16-10.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ played tough through the course of the match. Vanguard edged past Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ in the first game to win 25-22. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ then answered with a 25-22 win of their own in game number two. Seeming to have the momentum, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ surged ahead in game three, taking an early lead. But Vanguard regained control and took the game 25-20, taking a 2-1 match lead.

In the fourth game, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ proved they would not bow out easily as the Lady Bulldogs took a 24-21 lead. But it was Vanguard tying the game at 24-24, before taking the game and the match, 27-25.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ completes a banner season in which the Lady Bulldogs captured the 2008 TranSouth Tournament Title, the third in the program’s 11-year history. This year’s trip to the national tournament was the second (2004) in the history of Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ volleyball.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ head coach Steven Gream posted his best season in his four years at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ with a 27-8 overall. The 27 wins matched his career high, and his four-year win total 98 wins.
