KANSAS CITY, Mo. - 11/22/2008 - On the day Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University is competing in the NAIA Cross Country National Champions, the team puts three runners on the NAIA Scholar Athlete list. On the side, Lydia Bond earned her second NAIA Scholar Athlete honor. For the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ , Josh Abbotoy earned his second scholar athlete award, while Seth Covington earned his first national scholar athlete award.
The NAIA awards the scholar athlete award to individuals who are juniors or seniors and have at least a 3.5 GPA.
Bond, a 5-foot-9 senior, is from Madison, Ala. Earlier this season, she helped Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ to their sixth straight TranSouth Conference Title. She was named the TranSouth Runner of the Year and first team All-Conference. Bond has helped Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s women to their third straight NAIA National Tournament.
Covington, a 6-foot junior, calls Saltillo, Miss. Home. He helped Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s men to their fifth straight TranSouth Conference Title earlier this season. He is a three-time All-Conference runner, and was also named first team All-Region last season. Covington has helped Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s men to their second straight NAIA National Tournament.
Abbotoy, 5-foot-9 senior, is from Nashville, Tenn. He has helped Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s men win their fifth straight conference title and second straight national tournament appearance.
