Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ women's soccer advance in TranSouth Tourney with 2-0 win

JACKSON, Tenn. - 11/8/2008 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Lady Bulldogs advance to the semifinals of the TranSouth Conference Tournament with a 2-0 victory over Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University. The win for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (13-5) is their third straight. It also is their third straight shutout, and seventh shutout on the season.

The score was 0-0 until Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's leading scorer, Caitlin Zimmerman broke through thanks to a Leah Bender assist in the 65th minute. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ added a late goal by Candice Blackard in the 89th minute to go up 2-0. For Zimmerman, this was her 17th goal of the year. Blackard is second on the team in goals with seven.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ goalie Laura Pla record no saves as Freed-Hardeman posted no shots in the match. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ had 22 shots in the match, including 13 on goal. Tiffany Harris, the Lady Lion keeper, recorded 11 saves in her very active night.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, the No. 4 seed, will now travel to top seeded Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College on Tuesday, November 11 for a semifinal match.
