JACKSON, Tenn. - 11/8/2008 - The NAIA's top ranked team continued to rack up points as Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University's Lady Bulldog basketball team defeated St. Catharine (Ky.) College 120-52. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 4-0 on the season, while St. Catharine dropped their record to 2-2.
Both teams started the game slow. At the 17 minute mark, the game was knotted at 5-5 following a basket from St. Catharine. However, over the next nine minutes, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ got things rolling as they posted a 35-5 run to push the lead to 30 points. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ continued to extend their lead, going up by 35 at the half, 64-29.
In the second half, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ maintained the intensity as the Lady Bulldogs stretched the 35-point halftime lead to as many as 68 points. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ closed the game winning by 68 points, 120-52.
Leading the way for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was the third different player in four games on the season, Zeinab Chan. Chan posted a career high of 27 points to go along with her 10 rebounds, both of which were game-highs. Four other Lady Bulldogs posted double figures, including Lavanda Ross with 15 points, Josephine Owino and Merideth Jacobs with 13 points each, and Ashley Lillard with 11 points. All 11 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Lady Bulldogs scored in the contest. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ sank 10-of-26 three pointers and shot 56-percent from the field.
St. Catharine was led by Erin Rogers with 18 points.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be games in the Lady Bulldog Classic on Friday and Saturday, November 14-15. On Friday, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ plays the University of St. Francis (Ill.) at 6:00 pm, followed by a game with Lindenwood (Mo.) College at 4:00 pm on Saturday.
