JACKSON, Tenn. - 11/1/2008 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Lady Bulldogs, ranked No. 1 in the NAIA, moved to 2-0 on the season with a decisive 116-50 win over Harris-Stowe (Mo.) State University. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ missed just seven shots in the second half on their way to shooting 76-percent in the final 20 minutes.
In the early going, Harris-Stowe took a brief lead on Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, 9-8, following a three pointer from Nakaji Mitchell. However, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ quickly ran off 16 straight points to gain control of the game. The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 29 point lead twice in the first half, including the halftime score of 55-26.
In the second half, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ posted eye-popping shooting numbers. The Lady Bulldogs shot 76-percent from the field, missing only seven shots (22-29). Even better was their three-point shooting in the second half. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ made 8-of-10 from behind the arc in the final 20 minutes. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ stretched their lead to the biggest of the game at 68 points (116-48), before closing out the win at 116-50.
For the game, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 68-percent (44-66) from the field and 60 percent (13-22) from behind the arc. The only shooting struggles for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ came at the free throw line where the team sank just 58-percent (15-26).
All 11 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ players scored in the game, with six players scoring double figures. Kayla Hudson led all scorers with 23 points, including 5-of-7 from three-point range. Last night's leader, Kaitlin Dudley added 18 points. Josephine Owino, Christina Ray, and local freshman Lavanda Ross each scored 12 points. Ashley Lillard added 10 points.
Harris-Stowe was led by Mitchell with 15 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Marvis Jackson and Ca'Andra added 12 and 10 points respectively.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a tough road game on Tuesday, November 4 when the Lady Bulldogs travel to Campbellsville (Ky.) University for a 5:00 pm central time start. Campbellsville is receiving votes in the preseason ranking at the No. 30 position.
