Â鶹ÊÓƵ volleyball defeats Lambuth 3-0, Coyle moves into second place in all-time kills

JACKSON, Tenn. - 10/9/2008 - The Â鶹ÊÓƵ University Lady Bulldogs wasted little time in securing momentum versus crosstown rival Lambuth University in a non-conference match on Thursday night at Fred DeLay Gymnasium. Â鶹ÊÓƵ's 3-0 (25-9, 25-11, 25-21) victory over Lambuth stretched their winning streak to nine matches, the longest since an 11-match win streak back in 2006. The win also moves Â鶹ÊÓƵ's all-time volleyball record over Lambuth to 32-0, dating back to Â鶹ÊÓƵ's first season of volleyball in 1998.

In the win, Jackson native and former Trinity Christian Academy standout moved into second place on the all-time kills list at Â鶹ÊÓƵ. Coyle, the reigning TranSouth Conference Player of the Week, now has 250 kills for the season and 1,661 kills for her career.

Â鶹ÊÓƵ jumped out early and never looked back as they took the first game, 25-9. Game two unfolded much like the first with Â鶹ÊÓƵ prevailing 25-11. In game three, Lambuth showed life as they tied the match at 16-16. However, Â鶹ÊÓƵ quickly ended the rally by scoring nine of the final 14 points to seal the win.

Coyle, along with Lindsey Wilson and Emilie Ogas, led Â鶹ÊÓƵ with nine kills each. Ashley Young added six kills and Anna Sims tallied five kills. Katie Adams posted 34 assists and a match-high two service aces. CJ Neathamer led with 21 digs. Young led with four blocks.

Lambuth was paced by Rebecca Dufford with six kills, while Kathrine Leger added five kills. Casey Slagle dished out 19 assists, and Leia Pittman added three blocks.

Up next for Â鶹ÊÓƵ will be another non-conference match as Â鶹ÊÓƵ plays host to Rhodes (Tenn.) College on Tuesday, October 14. This game will be Â鶹ÊÓƵ's "Dig Pink" night as the team will be wearing pink jerseys to help support breast cancer awareness. Match time will be 7:00 pm.
