JACKSON, Tenn. - 10/4/2008 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University men's soccer team dropped their first TranSouth Conference match of the year in a hard-fought matchup against conference foe Cumberland (Tenn.) University 1-0. With the loss Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ falls into a tie for second place in the conference with a 5-4-2 overall record, 3-1 in the TranSouth. Cumberland is now 6-3-1 overall and 2-1 in league play.
Cumberland jumped out early, scoring the only goal of the match just 12 minutes into play. Kempess Villafana recorded the goal for Cumberland on a penalty kick. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ posted ten shots-on-goal in the match, but could never get the ball into the back of the net.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Dejan Kostic who tallied four shots on the night. Goalie James Landham recorded seven saves in the match.
Cumberland was led by Villafana with one goal in the match on three shots. Robert Boyd tallied four shots for Cumberland.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will face TranSouth Conference opponent Bethel (Tenn.) College next in a road match on Saturday, October 11. The match will begin at 2 pm in McKenzie, Tennessee.
