Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ women's soccer wins fourth straight match with 3-1 victory

JACKSON, Tenn. - 10/4/2008 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University women's soccer team matched their season best four-match winning streak with a 3-1 victory over Cumberland (Tenn.) University. With the win, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 9-3 overall and 3-1 in the TranSouth. Cumberland dropped to 4-7-1 on the season and 0-3 in league play.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ and Cumberland played a tight match throughout the first half, as the match went into halftime tied 0-0, but Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ went to work quickly after the break. Jamie Haynes put up the first goal of the match for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ in the 55th minute on an assist by Candice Blackard. Jill Landers scored the next goal for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ on another assist by Candice Blackard in the 68th minute of play. Cumberland’s Rhiannon Pruitt posted their only goal of the night, less than one minute later, on an assist by Laruen Mayer. Haynes scored again in the 79th minute to seal up the victory for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's Lady Bulldogs.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led on the night Haynes who had two goals on four shots. Candice Blackard led the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Lady Bulldogs in the assist category with two, as well as recording a game-high seven shots.

Pruitt scored the lone goal for Cumberland in the match, posting two shots in the match. Mayer recorded one assist for the Lady Bulldogs of Cumberland.

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a home match against Crichton (Tenn.) College at 3 pm, Wednesday, October 8.
