Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ men's soccer holds off No. 21 Mid-Continent for a 4-2 win

JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/27/2008 - Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University's men soccer team held off No. 21 Mid-Continent (Ky.) University for a 4-2 TransSouth Conference win. The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Bulldogs improved to 5-3-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference. Mid-Continent dropped to 4-3-1 on the season and 0-1 in league play.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first half. Wagner Oliveira scored first with an assist by Richard Norman. Following an own goal Richard Norman scored the third goal of the half for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ. All three goals for the Bulldogs came in a five minute span. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ held a 3-0 lead at the half.

Seven minutes into the second half, Mid-Continent finally got a shot through by Marco Pratis. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's Oliveira scored his second goal of the match in the 65th minute to put Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ up by three. A late goal by Freddy Okello of Mid-Continent finalized the score at 4-2.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ goalie James Landham recorded six saves in the win. Mid-Continent outshot Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ 15-8, including 9-5 in shots-on-goal.

Up next for the Bulldogs will be a cross-town matchup with rival Lambuth University. The match will take place at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ on September 30th, at 7 p.m.
