Fifth straight victory keeps Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ volleyball atop conference standings

JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/16/2008 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Lady Bulldog volleyball team remained in a tie for first place in the TranSouth Conference with a 3-1 (27-25, 25-27, 25-21, 25-15) win over Cumberland (Tenn.) University. With the victory, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 8-2 on the season and 4-0 in league play. Cumberland dropped to 6-5 overall and 2-2 in the conference.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was down 7-1 in the first game, however rallied back to take the lead and the game. Game two was back and forth for the duration, with Cumberland evening the match at 1-1. However, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was able to start wearing down Cumberland with 25-21 and 25-15 wins in the final two games to secure the match.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Amanda Coyle with 14 kills and Heather Lieberman with 13 kills. Ashley Young added eight kills while the defending conference player of the week, Anna Sims, tallied six kills. Katie Adams recorded 38 assists. Lieberman led with 15 digs and Sims led with five blocks.

Cumberland was paced by Jone Simpson with 12 kills, Taylor Denney had 35 assists, Katie Ball recorded 11 digs, and Ball added three blocks.

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be another home conference match versus Lyon (Ark.) College on Friday, September 19 at 6:00 pm.
