Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ women's soccer takes down Georgetown 4-1

JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/5/2008 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Lady Bulldogs improved their season record to 2-1 with a 4-1 victory over Georgetown (Ky.) College. Collierville native Candice Blackard recorded two goals in the win.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ and Georgetown played a scoreless first half, before the Lady Bulldogs broke through with a goal from Jamie Haynes early in the second half. Georgetown tied the game 16 minutes later on a goal from Ashley Stilgal.

However, just five minutes later, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's Caitlin Zimmerman broke the tie with a goal, followed by two goals from Blackard. Blackard's two goals came within two minutes of play. Zimmerman, Haynes, and Christina Reardon each added one assist in the match.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's Laura Pla, last week's TranSouth Defensive Player of the Week, record three saves in the contest.

The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ reserve team also recorded a win over Georgetown by the score of 2-1. Rachel Fillinger scored both goals with Leah Bender tallied one assist.

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be another game in the state of Kentucky with a match at Asbury College in Wilmore.
