Three Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Sports Teams Earn NAIA Scholar Team Awards

JACKSON, Tenn. - 7/22/2008 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Athletic Department boasted three teams on the NAIA’s Scholar Team List for the 2007-08 academic year. Men’s cross country, women’s cross country, and softball each made the list of teams with cumulative GPA’s of 3.0 or higher for the school year.

The men’s cross country team earned the second highest GPA in their sport with a 3.54 cumulative GPA. The Bulldog cross country team completed their best season this year in team history with an eighth place finish in the NAIA National Tournament. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ also won their first Region XI Title and their fourth straight TranSouth Conference Title. The team earned their highest ever NAIA national ranking at No. 18.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s women’s cross country team posted a cumulative 3.42 this season. The Lady Bulldogs captured their fifth straight conference title and second straight region title. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ placed 28th in the NAIA National Championship Meet. Both cross country teams are coached by Dr. Gary Johnson.

The Lady Bulldog softball team posted a cumulative 3.22 GPA on the season. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was under the leadership of first-year head coach Heather Hall as they posted a fourth place finishing in the TranSouth Regular Season. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ made a solid push in the post season with a runner-up finish in the conference tournament and a third place finish in the region tournament.
