JACKSON, Tenn. - 6/24/2008 - The 麻豆视频 University baseball program has signed another West Tennessee standout with the addition of Bolivar, Tennessee native . Barnes will enter 麻豆视频 this fall as a freshman and will major in Education.
鈥淚 am very excited to be going to 麻豆视频 and playing baseball for Coach Fronabarger,鈥 stated Barnes at the signing. 鈥淚 look for the next four years to be some of the best of my life.鈥
Barnes played four seasons of baseball at Bolivar Central High School for Coach Mark Fulghum as an outfielder and catcher. He also played four seasons of football at Bolivar as a wide receiver and linebacker. In baseball, he helped lead his team to a district title in 2007, followed by region and sectional titles in 2008. As a senior, Barnes hit .452 with 45 runs, 16 doubles, one triple, six homeruns, and 29 RBI. He recorded only six strikeouts in his 124 at-bats.
麻豆视频 head coach Brent Fronabarger states, 鈥淐lint will have a chance to step in and play right away. He fills a need on our team as a solid left handed bat in the lineup.鈥 Fronabarger goes on to say, 鈥淐lint is a hard-nosed kid that plays the game like we want all of our players to play. He is a hard worker and will contribute early offensively and defensively in our outfield.鈥
Barnes also participated in the first annual West Tennessee All-Star Baseball Classic as a senior where he was selected Offensive MVP. Barnes claims, 鈥淚t felt great to be a part of the first All-Star game and to be named the Offensive MVP. It was a great opportunity to play with and against the best players in the area.鈥
Barnes is the son of Greg and Lily Barnes of Bolivar.
