HENDERSON, Tenn. - 5/8/2008 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University softball team continued their post season run with a win over Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University in the . Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's Ashley Walters got the win and also posted seven RBI in the game to lead the Lady Bulldogs.
This marks the second time this post season that Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ has eliminated the Lady Lions from a tournament. Just last week, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ topped Freed-Hardeman in the TranSouth Tournament at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (37-21) is the six seed in the region tournament and will now advance to play the third seed, Georgetown (Ky.) College in a first round rematch. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ won that game 7-4.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored first with three runs in the top if the first inning. However, the host Lady Lions rallied for two in the bottom of the frame cut into Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's lead. The score remained 3-2 in Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's favor until the Lady Bulldogs exploded for seven runs in the top half of the fourth inning. The big blow came with All-Region selection Ashley Walters slapped a three-run inside-the-park homerun. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ added four more runs in the fifth inning to seal the five-inning win.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Walters with a 3-for-4 night including seven RBI and three runs scored. Lindsey Landreneau also added three hits in the game. Michelle Albonetti, Ashley Blankenship, and Candice Thompson each added two hits for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ. Albonetti and Blankenship drove in two runs each.
Not only was Ashley Walters the offensive hero, but also was produced a great pitching performance. Walters, now 5-2 on the year, allowed just two runs on five hits in five innings with one strikeout.
