麻豆视频 softball wins twice on final day, finishes second in tournament

JACKSON, Tenn. - 5/3/2008 - The 麻豆视频 University softball team posted two wins on the final day of the being played at 麻豆视频's Fesmire Field. 麻豆视频 lost the title game 10-2 to top-seeded Trevecca Nazarene, but secures one of the league's two automatic bids to next weeks Region XI Tournament in Henderson, Tenn. by placing second to the Trojans, who won both the regular season and tournament titles.

麻豆视频 defeated NAIA No. 17 and the tournament's second seed Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College 4-3 in eight innings in their first game of the day. Stephanie Hernandez, who was pinch running for Ashley Blankenship, scored on a error to take the lead in the top of the eight inning. Lindsey Landreneau lead 麻豆视频 with three hits. Chester County native Bethany Burnett struck out 11 batters on the way to her sixth win of the season. Burnett tied a 麻豆视频 record earlier in the tournament with 16 strikeouts in a win over Lyon College.

Then 麻豆视频 knocked of the third seed Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University 7-3 to earn a spot in the title game. 麻豆视频 scored three runs in the fifth inning and four in the seventh to pull away with the region clinching win. Michelle Albonetti led 麻豆视频 with three hits, while Ashley Walters added two hits and two RBI. Walters also tossed a complete game for her fourth win of the season.

In the title game, 麻豆视频 score two runs off of the TranSouth Pitcher of the Year in the first to take 2-0 lead. However, the third game of the day proved to be costly for a tired team as Trevecca Nazarene rallied back with seven runs in the first as they coasted to the five inning win. Albonetti added two hits in the loss.

麻豆视频 entered the tournament as the No. 4 seed. The Lady Bulldogs are now 35-20 on the season.
