JACKSON, Tenn. - 4/7/2008 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Lady Bulldog softball team earned a double-header sweep over conference foe Lyon (Ark.) College 4-0 and 5-4 on Monday evening. The two wins for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ pushes their streak to four straight wins and the nine wins in their last 10 games. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 19-8 overall and 10-4 in the TranSouth. Lyon dropped to 8-27 overall and 7-15 in league play.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ City native Brooke Laws ripped a double to centerfield with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to drive home the winning run for the Lady Bulldogs. Laws went 1-for-3 in the second game with the one RBI. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ left 14 runners on base as they stroked out 18 hits in the contest. Michelle Albonetti was 4-for-5 in the game. Ashley Blankenship and Amy Chatham added three hits each.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's Chatham proved not only to be one of the offensive stars on the day. She also earned both wins on the mound. Chathan tossed a complete game one-hit shutout in the first game. She then tossed four innings of relief in the night-cap to record her second win of the day and push her season record to 12-2. Brittany Burnett started the second game for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ and tossed five innings, allowing two runs.
In game one, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's Ashley Walters went 2-for-2 with two runs while freshman Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ City native Brooke Laws went 1-for-2 with two RBI. In addition to her pitching success in the first game, Chatham also added a homerun.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ softball will be a conference double-header in Nashville at Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University starting at 4:00 pm.
