JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/1/2008 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Bulldog baseball team, in only their second weekend of action, split a double-header with Lambuth University on Saturday afternoon, winning the first game 9-4 and dropping the second game 7-5. Lambuth topped the Bulldogs 9-5 on Friday to take the series, two games to one. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's record is now 6-2 overall and 1-2 in the TranSouth. Lambuth goes to 12-7 overall and 2-1 in league play.
Due to wet field conditions at Lambuth, the opening series of the TranSouth season for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ and Lambuth was moved to Fesmire Field on Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's campus.
In all three games of the series, it was one big inning in each game that produced three come-from-behind wins. In Friday night's game, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led 5-2 in the eighth inning before allowing seven runs to fall 9-5. In the first game of the day on Saturday, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ trailed 4-3, before scoring six runs in the sixth inning to take the 9-4 win. And finally, in game three of the series, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led 4-0, but allowed six Lambuth runs in the bottom of the fourth to propel the Eagles to the 7-5 victory.
Shaun Cozart of Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led the Bulldogs with the bat this weekend. After posting four hits in the Friday game, he went a combined 4-for-7 in the two games on Saturday with three RBI.
Lambuth's big bat on Saturday came from Ryan Concannon, who was a combined 4-for-6 on the day with three RBI.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's Carl Harken (2-0) tossed a complete game in his win in game one on Saturday. Lambuth's Tony Perez took the loss. In the rubber game of the series, Lambuth's Brent Ebinger earned the win in relief with Kory Bates earning the save. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's Matt Carter took the loss, tossing three scoreless innings before allowing five runs in the fourth inning.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ baseball will be a road double-header at Spalding University (Ky.) on Tuesday, March 4.
