BATESVILLE, Ark. - 2/4/2008 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Bulldogs, winners of four straight games, could not hold their lead as they fell 62-59 at Lyon College (Ark.) on Monday night. With the loss, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ dropped to 13-9 on the season and 7-5 in the TranSouth. Lyon snapped a four-game skid and improved to 10-12 overall and 4-8 in league play.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led by 18 points in the first half, however, Lyon rallied for the last 10 points of the half to cut Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s lead to 37-29 at the break. The NAIA’s leading scorer Matt Neaville left the game just before the half and didn’t return for the remainder of the game.
In the second half, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ struggled offensively to score; only posting 22 points. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led by as many as 10 points on several occasions in the second half, and was able to hold the lead against a charging Lyon squad for over 19 minutes of the second half. However, a lay-up from Trey Salley of the Scots gave Lyon their first lead of the game, 60-59 with 28 seconds left. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ then missed two free throws with a chance to tie or take the lead. Lyon’s Levi Taylor promptly sank two free throws for Lyon to put the Scots up 62-59. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s last second three-point attempt by Brian Lake missed at the buzzer.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Matt Neaville with 14 first half points before leaving the game. Tacuma Alexander added 12 points. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 33-percent from the field, 29-percent (8-28) from three-point range, and 62-percent from the free throw line (31-21).
Lyon was led by Jonathan Donaldson with 12 points. Charles Black and Trey Salley each added 10 points in the game. Lyon shot 42-percent from the field, 33-percent (4-12) from behind the arc, and 75-percent (12-16) from the free throw line.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a home game on Thursday, February 7 versus Trevecca Nazarene University (Tenn.). The men will play at 8:00 pm, preceded by the women’s game at 6:00 pm.
