No. 1 Â鶹ÊÓƵ Ladies Set Team Mark for Best Start at 22-0

BATESVILLE, Ark. - 2/4/2008 - The No. 1 ranked Â鶹ÊÓƵ University Lady Bulldogs improved their season record to 22-0 on the season with a 91-75 win at Lyon College (Ark.). The 22-0 start for Â鶹ÊÓƵ is a new team record for the best start to a season, passing the 21-0 mark set in 1987-88. Â鶹ÊÓƵ also moved to 11-0 in the TranSouth Conference. Lyon dropped to 14-8 overall and 5-6 in league play.

Dating back to January 11, 2007, Â鶹ÊÓƵ has won 43 of their last 45 games. Â鶹ÊÓƵ, at 22 straight wins, is just one win shy of tying their team record of 23 straight wins set during the 1994-95 season.

In the first half, Â鶹ÊÓƵ pulled out to a 13-point halftime lead (49-36) thanks to 19 first half points from Kaitlin Dudley. Dudley was named the TranSouth Conference Player of the Week for her efforts last week in helping Â鶹ÊÓƵ stay perfect with two more wins.

Lyon opened the second half with a run that quickly cut the Â鶹ÊÓƵ lead down to five points. However, Â鶹ÊÓƵ responded to stop the Lyon rally with one of Dudley’s five three pointers on the night. Â鶹ÊÓƵ stretched the lead up to 76-54, their biggest of the game, with seven minutes left to play. Lyon still would not go away. With 45 seconds remaining, the Pipers had cut Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s lead back down to just 14 points, 89-75. Â鶹ÊÓƵ went on to win 91-75.

Â鶹ÊÓƵ was led by Kaitlin Dudley with a career-high 34 points, including 5-of-6 shooting from behind the arc. For the second straight game, Â鶹ÊÓƵ's Dudley set personal highs as on Saturday over Bethel, Dudley posted her first career double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Josephine Owino added 23 points. Freshman guard Kayla Hudson posted 15 points and nine assists. Â鶹ÊÓƵ shot 58-percent from the field, 50-percent (8-16) from three point range, and 72-percent (13-18) from the free throw line.

Lyon was led by April Carter with 24 points on 8-of-9 shooting from three point range. Maribeth Walters and K.K. Hodges added 15 points each. Lyon shot 44-percent from the field, 59-percent (13-22) from behind the arc, and 60-percent (6-10) from the charity stripe.
