JACKSON, Tenn. - 1/19/2008 - The No. 1 ranked Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Lady Bulldogs improved to 17-0 on the season with a 104-73 win over Martin Methodist College (Tenn.). Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is now 6-0 in the TranSouth. Martin Methodist dropped to 10-8 overall and 2-4 in league play.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ posted their third straight game with over 60-percent shooting from the field. Over their last three games, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ has posted 53, 60, and 55 points respectively in the first half of each game. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led by as many as 22 points (35-13) in the first half and had a 24 point lead with just seconds left. However, a three pointer from just inside the half court line by Martin Methodist's Larraine Sutton closed Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's halftime lead to 55-34.
The second half opened with Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ posting a 13-4 run. The Lady Bulldogs coasted over the last 15 minutes of play, extending their 21-point halftime lead to a 31-point win, 104-73. All 11 players for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored in the game with six players posting double figures. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ starters managed only about five minutes each in the second half.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by sophomore Kaitlin Dudley with 19 points, 17 of which came in the first half. Freshman reserve Ella Joines posted a career high with 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting from behind the arc. Jessica Graves scored 14 points, Josephine Owino and Merideth Jacobs added 13 points each, and Zeinab Chan posted 10 points. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ had four players to made at least three shots from behind the arc in the game. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's 16 made three pointers was just three short of the team's record 19 three pointers made in 2005.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 58-percent from the field, including 50-percent (16-32) from behind the arc. The Lady Bulldogs made 20-of-28 free throws for 71-percent.
Martin Methodist was led by Lorraine Sutton and Whitney Robinson with 13 points each. Diane Frost and Crystal Pointexter each added 11 points. The RedHawks shot 39-percent from the field, 27-percent (6-22) from three point range, and 53-percent (9-17) from the free throw line.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a road conference game at area rival Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, Tennessee on Thursday, January 24. The women's game will start at 6:00 pm with the men's game to follow at 8:00 pm.
