Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s Comeback Falls Short in Home Loss

JACKSON, Tenn. - 1/12/2008 - The No. 20 Â鶹ÊÓƵ University Bulldogs dropped their third straight game on Saturday with an 83-67 loss to No. 12 Lambuth University (Tenn.). With the loss, Â鶹ÊÓƵ fell to 7-7 on the season and 1-3 in the TranSouth. Lambuth improved to 12-1 overall and 4-0 in league play.

The first half started with a 10-0 run by the Lambuth Eagles. Matt Neaville scored first for the Bulldogs, but Lambuth continued to dominate the first half. The Eagles lead by as many as 24 points, 48-24, with less than two minutes to go in the half. The Bulldogs went into halftime down by 19 points, 50-31.

The Bulldogs scored first in the second half on two made free throws by Brian Lake to pull within 17 points, 50-33. The two teams continued to swap baskets over the next several possessions, keeping the Eagles’ lead between 18 and 21 points. The Bulldogs started a run on two quick baskets by Matt Neaville to pull the Bulldogs within 15 points, 62-47 at the 10:55 mark. Lambuth pushed the lead back to 20 points, 73-53 with 7:03 remaining. Â鶹ÊÓƵ again made a push, posting a 12-0 run over the next three minutes to cut the Lambuth lead to just eight points, 73-65. But that was as close as Â鶹ÊÓƵ would get. Lambuth used an 8-0 to get the lead back to double digits, finally closing out the game with the final of 83-67.

Â鶹ÊÓƵ was led by Matt Neaville with 19 points. Tacuma Alexander added 13 points while Brian Lake posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Roland Banhoro added a career-high 11 boards in the game. Â鶹ÊÓƵ shot just 37-percent from the field, including only 14-percent (4-29) from three-point range. Â鶹ÊÓƵ made 19-of-25 free throws for 76-percent. Â鶹ÊÓƵ outrebounded Lambuth 48-31, including 18-8 on the offensive glass.

Lambuth was led by Glen Dandridge with 16 points and Antawn Coby with 15 points. Trey Pearson and Corey Webster added 13 and 10 points respectively. Lambuth shot 49-percent from the field and 29-percent (8-28) from behind the arc. The Eagles made 9-of-16 free throws for 56-percent.

Up next for Â鶹ÊÓƵ will be a conference game at Cumberland University (Tenn.) on Monday, January 14. The men’s game will start at 8:00 pm, preceded by the women’s game at 6:00 pm.
