Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Men Fall to Lyon at Home

JACKSON, Tenn. - 1/7/2008 - The No. 22 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Bulldogs fell to the Lyon College Scots 75-63 on Monday night at Fred DeLay Gymnasium. The Bulldogs dropped to 7-5 on the season and 1-1 in TranSouth conference play. The Scots are now 7-5 with a 1-1 conference record.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ fell down early 5-0 following a three pointer by Lyon’s Preston Butts. However, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ responded to with a 17-5 run and led 17-10 at the 10:47 mark of the first half. Lyon rallied back for an 18-3 run of their own to take their largest lead of the first half at 28-20 with just over four minutes to play. Lyon took a six-point (32-26) lead into the locker room.

In the second half, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ tried to rally back as they cut the lead to just two points, 37-35 at the 15 minute mark. However on this night, it was Lyon’s defense that kept the NAIA’s top three-point shooting teams at bay. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ managed to get within two points on three occasions in the second half, but no closer. Lyon drained free throws down the stretch and pushed the final score to 75-63.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, who ranks No. 1 in the NAIA with 12 three pointers made per game, made just four on this night, including only 1-of-14 in the second half. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Brian Lake with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Matt Neaville, the NAIA’s leading scoring at 29 points per game, posted 13 points. Tony Brown added 11 points for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ. The Bulldogs shot just 31-percent from the field, including just 14-percent from behind the arc. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ did make 83-percent of their free throws (19-23).

Lyon was led by Levi Taylor with 16 points. Trey Salley added 15 points, Jonathan Donaldson scored 13 points, and Charles Black tallied 12 points. Lyon shot 51-percent form the field, including 31-percent (4-13) from behind the arc. The Scots also managed 81-percent (21-26) from the free throw line, including 20-of-24 in the second half.

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be another conference game at Trevecca Nazarene University (Tenn.) on Thursday night in Nashville. The men will play at 8:00 pm, preceded by the women’s game at 6:00 pm.
