JACKSON, Tenn. - 1/7/2008 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Lady Bulldogs, ranked No. 1 in the NAIA, improved to 13-0 on the season with a 76-52 win over Lyon College (Ark.). The Lady Bulldogs, winners of 34 of their past 36 games moved to 2-0 in the TranSouth. Lyon dropped to 9-4 on the year and 0-2 in league play.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored first in the contest as Josephine Owino scored the first six points of the game for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ. Lyon cut Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s lead to just one point (11-10) on a three pointer by April Carter at the 12:55 mark in the first half. However, over the final 12-plus minutes of the first half, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ outscored Lyon 30-9 to take a 41-19 halftime lead, their biggest of the game to this point.
In the second half, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ came out and promptly posted an 8-2 run to take a 49-21 lead. That 28-point lead was the largest of the game for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ maintained a large lead over the remainder of the second half. Lyon came within 19 points of the Lady Bulldogs on two occasions in the final half, before Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ stretched the final scored back out to 24 points at 76-52.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Josephine Owino with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Kaitlin Dudley added 13 points, while Merideth Jacobs and Zeinab Chan scored 10 points each. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 43-percent from the field, including 29-percent (9-31) from behind the arc. The Lady Bulldogs sank 7-of-9 free throws (.778).
Lyon was led by Kishanna Hodges with a game-high 18 points. The Pipers shot 37-percent from the field, including just 18-percent (3-17) from behind the arc. Lyon made 11-of-16 free throws for a 69-percentage.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a road conference game at No. 11 Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville. The women will play at 6:00 pm, followed by the men at 8:00 pm.
