JACKSON, Tenn. - 12/6/2007 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Lady Bulldogs remained the No.1 ranked team in the NAIA in the latest national rankings as a unanimous choice. The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Bulldogs dropped three spots to No. 22 after a tough loss to the current No. 1 ranked team, Mountain State University (W. Va.).
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s women, who are now 10-0 on the season, have posted this perfect record with wins over five teams currently ranked or receiving votes in the rankings. Included in those five wins are victories over No. 4 Lee (Tenn.) and No. 8 The Master’s (Calif.).
The Lady Bulldogs continue to be led by junior center Josephine Owino. She currently ranks No. 1 in the NAIA in field goal percentage (.703), No. 2 in blocks (2.9), No. 6 in points per game (21.5), and No. 14 in total rebounds per game (8.9). Sophomore guard Kaitlin Dudley ranks No. 4 in the NAIA in free throw percentage (.923) and No. 18 in points per game (17.6). Freshman guard Kayla Hudson ranks No. 2 in assists per game (7.9), No. 5 in assists/turnover ration (4.4), and No. 7 in free throw percentage (.900). Senior guard Crystal Eason is averaging 12.7 points per game and is leading Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ 21 made three pointers on the season.
On the men’s side, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ has started the year with a 4-3 record with all three losses coming to teams ranked in the top 25 (No. 1 Mountain State 100-89, No. 4 Oklahoma Baptist 88-82 OT, and No. 21 William Carey 98-97 OT). Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ has only played one team this season that is not ranked in the current NAIA Top 25. Of Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµs four wins, three have come versus teams in the top 25, including a win over No. 6 Campbellsville. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ still has three games left before conference play starts, including Lindsey Wilson (receiving votes), Mobile, and at No. 1 Mountain State. In the TranSouth, currently five teams are ranked (Trevecca Nazarene at No. 7, Lambuth at No. 13, Martin Methodist at No. 20, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ at No. 22, and Freed-Hardeman receiving votes.
The Bulldogs are led by an offense that ranks No. 1 in the NAIA in three pointers made per game (13.7). Junior guard Matt Neaville ranked No. 1 in the NAIA with 31.0 points and 6.9 three pointers per game. Senior forward Ryan Merriman ranks No. 1 in the NAIA with 5.0 offensive rebounds per game and No. 2 with 11.1 total rebounds per game. Tony Brown ranks No. 9 in the NAIA with a .556 three point percentage.
